From the dictionary, the definition of sgraffito is:
sgraf·fi·to (noun) – a form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color, typically done in plaster or stucco on walls, or in slip on ceramics before firing.
This is exactly what I have been doing.
It starts with an idea, usually inspired by a picture I took.
I scratch the pattern into the enamel. Do some more stuff …
Fire it in the kiln and if all goes well, then I get something like this:
